What is the AcneLight Therapy System™?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ is a revolutionary device built for patients to use at home for the treatment of acne.   It uses the same FDA approved photodynamic technology as used by the ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™ machines used in physician's offices.
Magazines.jpg (70777 bytes)     It utilizes two high intensity 500 Watt light bubs (total of 1000 Watts) to generate specific wavelengths of light which have been shown to kill the bacteria which cause acne.
The photodynamic technology used by the AcneLight Therapy System™ has been featured in many magazines and TV shows and is fast becoming the leading and most effective acne therapy which can be used at home.

woman face, eyes closed.jpg (11868 bytes)How does the AcneLight Therapy System™ treat acne?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ uses very intense Blue (400nm-420nm) and Red (630nm-650nm) light to kill the bacteria which cause acne.
Acne results from infection by the bacteria P.Acnes (Propionibacterium Acnes) and Acne Vulgaris.  Every skin pore on our body from which hair grows, has a Sebaceous Gland which produces oil (Sebum) in order to lubricate our skin.
When the pore becomes plugged with dirt, oil (Sebum), or dead skin, the bacteria begin to proliferate and cause an infection from within the skin.

Skin Structures.jpg (22674 bytes)

Cartoon1.jpg (21112 bytes)

The bacterial infection causes inflamation which is what we see as acne.  P.Acnes bacteria contain
porphyrins, which can be excited by Blue (400-420 nm ) light.

Cartoon2.jpg (20623 bytes)
When the porphyrins are excited by the intense blue light, they become converted to a chemical which is deadly to the P.Acnes bacteria.   This leads to the death of the bacteria.

Cartoon3.jpg (18383 bytes)     Stimulation with intense Red (630-650nm) light leads to tissue repair and regeneration.  Stimulation with the red light causes the release of cytokines in the skin which stimulate fibroblast proliferation and the production of growth factors, thus influencing the inflammatory process and leading to disappearance of the acne.

woman smiling.jpg (10479 bytes)How is the AcneLight Therpay System™ used?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ has two 500 Watt light sources (blue and red).  Each light source is positioned at a 45 degree angle, and about 1 foot (~25 centimeters) from the face (or any other skin area to be treated - such as the back).  The light sources can be most easily placed on a tabletop as you sit in a chair facing the light sources.
You must wear protective eye goggles in order to protect your eyes from the intense bright light.  A fan is provided to cool your skin and make the treatment more comfortable, as the light sources generate a considerable amount of heat.
You must thoroughly wash your skin before the treatment so that you don't have any lotions or makeup over the skin which is to be treated.
It is recommended that you treat the skin for 30 minutes during each treatment.  Half way into the treatment (after 15 minutes), you must swap the blue and red lights so that each side of the face is exposed to 15 minutes of blue light, and 15 minutes of red light.   The light sources can be easily moved and positioned to many different angles and locations as you wish.

How often do I need to do the treatments?
It is recommended that you have a total of 8 treatments done twice a week (total of 4 weeks).  Since acne is an ongoing condition, you may do maintenance treatments as needed.  In general, most people may need a maintenance treatment once every 1-2 weeks after the course of 8 treatments.

BeforeAfter1.jpg (42509 bytes)

What does the treatment feel like?
The treatments are quite comfortable and totally pain free.   You may feel a slight warmth from the heat generated by the light sources.  A fan is provided to cool the skin and make the treatment more comfortable.  It is recommended that you use the device in a well ventilated room.

BeforeAfter3.jpg (32643 bytes)

What can I expect after the treatment?
Right after the treatment you may feel a slight warmth over the treated areas.  This will resolve in a few minutes as you are no longer exposed to the heat of the light sources.  Your skin may look slightly flushed for a short period of time.  There is absolutely no downtime and you can resume your daily activities as usual.  Most people see a significant reduction in their acne by the 2nd week of their treatment course.  You will also see improvement in your skin texture as it becomes smoother and even toned, as well as a reduction in the size of the skin pores.

BeforeAfter4.jpg (42415 bytes)

woman looking in mirror 2.jpg (13079 bytes)Can I do anything to improve the results?
It has been shown that the use of
Levulan (Aminolevulinic Acid / ALA) can enhance the results of photodynamic therapy.  Levulan is a solution which must be applied to the skin for 15-30 minutes before the treatment.  Levulan can make your skin extremely sensitive to sunlight and therefore must only be used under the care and prescription of a physician.  Consult your physician for more details.  Severe forms of acne may also require a short-term course of oral antibiotics.  Consult your physician for more details.

MD-Forte creams.jpg (27325 bytes)     It is also recommended that you use an acne formulation in conjuction with the
AcneLight Therapy System™.   It is important to keep your skin clean at all times in order to minimize future acne breakouts.  And if you use makeup, you should only use oil free makeup as to not clog your skin pores.  Although every person responds differently to different acne formulations, we strongly recommend the MD-Forte cleanser and lotions.

BeforeAfter2.jpg (35219 bytes)Are there any side effects?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ has practically no side effects or downtime.  If you are taking certain medications which make the skin sensitive to light, you should not use the device as it may lead to excessive skin irritation.  One of the main medications causing photosesitivity is Accutane.   You should not use this device if you are taking Accutane.  Please consult with your physician about any other medications which you are currently taking before using this device.

Is the AcneLight Therpay System™ safe for all skin types?
Yes.  The AcneLight Therapy System™ can be safely used on all skin types and skin colors.

Can any part of the body be treated?

Yes.  The AcneLight Therapy System™ can be used on any part of the body which is affected by acne.  Although the most common area is the face, the device can also be used on the back, chest, arms, legs, and buttocks.

What other skin conditions can be treated?
In addition to acne, the AcneLight Therapy System™ will improve any of the following skin conditions:

• Improvement in Acne
• Improvement in Acne Blemishes/Scars
• Improvement in Rosacea / Flushing
• Improvement in Actinic Keratosis
• Healthier-looking skin
• Smoother skin
• Reduced pore size
• More even skin tone

How does the AcneLight Therpay System™ compare to the ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™?
clearlight.jpg (26146 bytes)     The AcneLight Therapy System™ uses the same FDA approved photodynamic technology as used by the expensive ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™ machines which are used in physician's offices.  Results are the same if not even better.  The ClearLight™, for example, uses two 400 Watt light sources of blue light.  The AcneLight Therapy System™ uses two 500 Watt light sources (total of 1000 Watts) which is even more powerful than the ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™ machines.  In addition to the Blue light
(400-420nm), the AcneLight Therapy System™ also uses Red light (630-650nm) which has been shown to promote tissue repair and regeneration thus decreasing inflammation and promoting healthier looking skin.
Other acne devices made to be used at home use very weak LEDs or flourescent light bulbs.  These devices are practically ineffective as the light generated must have a certain intensity to achieve any results.
The AcneLight Therapy System™ generates 1000 Watts of light power to eradicate acne effectively and safely.

How much money do I save as compare to treatments with the ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™?
Financing.jpg (9819 bytes)     The AcneLight Therapy System™ can save you thousands of dollars as compared to having the same treatments done at physicians offices.  Most physician's offices charge between $150-$250 per treatment for the ClearLight™, Omni Lux™, and Blu-U™.  You can achieve the same, if not better results at home using your own AcneLight Therapy System™.  If you consider that most people need continuing maintenance treatments, it makes more sense to have your own machine at home rather than pay thousands of dollars to have the same treatment done at a physician's office.

Does the device require any maintenance?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ is virtually maintenance free.   You should just keep the special optical lenses clean.  The light sources use 500 Watt halogen lamps which last for many hours of operation.  The halogen lamps can be easily replaced and they can be found at any hardware store for under $10 each.

What type of warranty is provided on the device?
The AcneLight Therapy System™ is warranted for a full 90 days from the day of purchase.
